Best answer 15 15 votes Odometer is a device used to measure distance traveled by an object. Area under Velocity-Time graph represents the distance traveled. So, answer $= 0.5+1+1.5+1+0.5+0.5= 5 m.$ Correct Answer: $D$ akashsheoran answered Jan 25, 2017 • moved May 18 by Arjun akashsheoran comment Share Follow See all 5 Comments 5 5 Comments reply yg92 commented Feb 8, 2017 i moved by Arjun May 18 reply Follow flag @akashsheoran what about the negative velocity from time 5-7 ? Excluding that area we get 4m. Should we include that area? 0 0 replyShare Arjun commented Feb 9, 2017 i moved by Arjun May 18 reply Follow flag of course yes, it means distance travelled in reverse direction which is not detected by any odometer. 4 4 replyShare yg92 commented Feb 9, 2017 i moved by Arjun May 18 reply Follow flag @Arjun Sir. Could you pls help. I am getting confused here - Distance travelled by the object is - Dist travelled by moving fwd ( 0 - 4 sec) + Dist travelled in reverse direction ( 5 - 7 sec ) Total dist travelled = 4 m ( moving fwd) + 1 m ( reverse direction) = 5m They have asked - how much will the odometer reading increase? You said distance travelled in reverse direction which is not detected by any odometer. So should the ans include reverse dist covered or exclude that? 0 0 replyShare Arjun commented Feb 9, 2017 i moved by Arjun May 18 reply Follow flag I meant that odometer won't detect the "reverse" direction and subtract that distance. 0 0 replyShare itsvkp1 commented Aug 25, 2017 i moved by Arjun May 18 reply Follow flag negative velocity means object is going in reverse direction . odometer is use to measure the distance covered so odometer will still measure the distance cover by object , no matter what is the direction of object. 4 4 replyShare Please log in or register to add a comment.
